Market Rasen

The Learning Centre in Market Rasen has been open since 2000. We offer a programme for 16-18s called Flare as well as accredited and non-accredited courses for adults.

Reception is in Café CLIP, 8 Queen Street.

Support is also available for those wanting to develop their computer skills, seek employment or further training. We hold a weekly Job Club on Tuesday mornings 10.00 - 12.00.

English - GCSE (day)

GCSE English is required for many jobs and further learning – it is the “gold standard” qualification. The course involves discussion of a range of topics and you will have the opportunity to develop skills in reading and writing of both non-fiction texts and creative prose. The course starts with basic work in reading comprehension, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) accredited training courses teach people to spot the symptoms of mental health issues, offer initial help and guide a person towards support. We don’t teach people to be therapists but we do teach people to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis or potentially to stop a crisis from happening. Functional English is a full certificate programme which helps you to develop your reading, writing and speaking and listening. Maths Functional Skills Level 1/2

Functional Maths helps you to develop a wide range of maths skills including number, decimals, fractions, measurement, area, volume and data collection/statistics. The course emphasises the application of maths to everyday and work situations. This will be a mixed group for L1 and L2 and it supports progression to Level 2 (if applicable) or GCSE Maths. Maths Functional Skills Entry 2/Entry 3

You will develop the knowledge and skills of addition, subtraction and multiplying two-figure numbers by numbers up to 9. You will start to work with different units of measurement and perform simple calculations with money, weight and distance. You will also learn to lay-out and calculate division problems. This course will also help you apply mathematical concepts to everyday situations, and supports progression to Functional Maths at Level 1/Level 2. English Literature - GCSE

GCSE English Literature is a fantastic next step for learners who have enjoyed studying English in the past and are enthusiastic to develop their skills in reading, analysis, interpretation and communication. Mathematics - GCSE

This course covers number (calculations, fractions, decimals, percentages), statistics, algebra and geometry, and all assessment is at the end of the programme. Mindfulness and Anxiety

This course is designed as an introduction to mindfulness for those interested in learning how mindfulness can help with anxiety. The significant evidence base around mindfulness has shown it to be a highly effective method of prevention in recurrent depression and as a successful intervention for a variety of anxiety disorders. Mindfulness can help us to slowly learn to break free from negative thought patterns to improve our well-being. Yoga for Wellbeing

This course will look at the foundations of Hatha yoga, meditation and the ancient philosophy behind it. You will learn some key postures from each of the main groups including standing poses, forward and back bends, twists and sun salutations. You will discover the importance of breath and its effect on your yoga and meditation practice. No experience necessary as you will learn all of the essentials that you need to begin your yoga journey. Digital Skills Level 1

This Level 1 qualification enables you to gain mastery of the internet and basic ICT to a national standard. IT for Users Level 2

Students attending the Level 2 course need to be comfortable with the use of word processing, organising files and folder and use of the internet. Flora and Fauna

Without flora and fauna humans cannot exist. If you are fascinated by plant and animal life and how important they are to our eco-system then this is the course for you. Plant Adventures

This interesting course explores gardening throughout the centuries. You will discover how women held positive role models in early gardening and learn about different people and their gardens. Photography Level 2

This qualification is designed for individuals who wish to develop an understanding of photographic processes and the photo imaging industry. Photography Level 1

You will explore the creative and technical aspects of digital photography using a digital SLR or ‘bridge’ camera. Food Safety Level 2

This course is designed for any person working in a catering or retail setting where food is stored, prepared, cooked, displayed and served.  It covers all the separate activities within a kitchen, in order to ensure all food handlers understand safe and hygienic working practice. Counselling Level 2

The course aims to explore and develop core counselling skills; introduce the three main counselling theories; and encourage reflective practice and personal development.
